Barcelona has announced that Lionel Messi will not appear before Eibar in the final round of the Spanish League.
Barcelona will play Eibar tomorrow, Saturday, in a win-win match after completely eliminating La Liga in favor of the two Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Why miss Messi from the match?
Barcelona's official website confirmed that Messi did not train with the team on Friday after obtaining permission from coach Ronald Koeman. He explained that the player will get a short break in order to participate with his country’s national team in the Copa America next June. Will he play again with Barcelona?
Speculation continues about Messi's fate with the Catalan team, as his contract expires next June without an agreement on the renewal yet.
His match against Celta Vigo could be his last with the club, after a long career the Argentine spent at Camp Nou.
What did Messi do this season?
The 33-year-old appeared for the last time in the team's jersey against Celta Vigo, after playing 46 matches in all competitions.
The player scored 38 goals with the Catalan team, where he scored 30 goals in the league to secure the top scorer title for the eighth time in its history.
He also became the player with the most participation with Barcelona, surpassing Xavi Hernandez, the former star of the team, and also surpassed Pele as the best scorer with the same club with 672 goals.
What does the La Liga competition race look like?
The competition is currently limited to Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with the former playing against Valladolid and the second against Villarreal tomorrow, Saturday, in the final round.
Atletico ranks first with 83 points after 37 rounds, followed by Real in second place with 81 points.
